What does registered office post actually cost your practice?

Three sliders: how many letters arrive, how long each one takes, and what the person handling them costs. The answer is usually bigger than the fee the service earns.

HONEST NUMBERS

How to fill it in accurately.

The calculation is deliberately simple — volume × time × rate. The accuracy comes from being honest about the inputs.

Letters per week

Count what physically arrives for client companies — HMRC, Companies House, banks, insurers, everything. Most firms undercount; the pile is bigger than it feels.

Minutes per letter

Open, read, work out which client it belongs to, scan, rename the file, attach to an email, write the covering line, file the copy. Five minutes is a typical honest number; some letters take fifteen.

Hourly staff cost

Use the full cost of whoever does it — salary plus employer costs. If a qualified member of staff sorts the post, use their rate: the work displaces billable time.

WHAT THE NUMBER MEANS

The fee is fixed. The cost grows with every new client.

Registered office service is usually priced flat — £10 to £25 a month per company. The handling cost is not flat: every new client adds letters, and every letter adds minutes. Past a certain volume the service quietly becomes loss-making, and the loss is invisible because it is paid in staff time.

Automating the processing turns the cost line flat again: one batch scan a day regardless of client count. That is the difference between a service you tolerate and a service you can sell. See how the platform does it.

Calculator questions

How does the calculator work?

Letters per week × 4.33 gives monthly volume. Multiplied by minutes per letter it gives hours spent, and multiplied by hourly staff cost it gives the monthly cost of manual processing. The comparison shows the ComplyPost plan that covers that volume.

Is the estimate realistic?

It is deliberately conservative: it prices only the direct handling time. It excludes the cost of a missed deadline, a client chasing a lost letter, or the partner time spent on "where is that HMRC letter?" — the failures the manual process produces occasionally and expensively.

What does ComplyPost change about the numbers?

The per-letter manual work — reading, identifying the client, classifying, renaming, sending — is done by the platform, and your team reviews in batches instead. Firms typically keep a review step of seconds per letter rather than minutes.
